Service person of the Month Award

Established to honor a member of the Armed Services stationed locally. The Award is presented by the Chamber of Commerce at the New London Rotary Club annually.

Nicholas Harr

Electronics Technician First Class (Submarines) Nicholas Harr was honored as November's Serviceperson of the Month by the New London Rotary during a luncheon held November 6 at the Radisson Hotel in New London.
The Service Person of the Month Program provides community recognition of outstanding active duty enlisted personnel stationed in the Groton-New London area. Championed by the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut in cooperation with all active duty units of military organizations permanently based in the area, the program is actively supported by local service clubs and civic organizations who celebrate the monthly awardees at events sponsored by the clubs or organizations.
Harr was commended for his outstanding work at his command, the Los Angeles Class submarine, USS Philadelphia (SSN 690) stationed at Naval Submarine Base New London. "Petty Officer Harr exemplifies our boat's motto, 'Service above self,'" said Master Chief Machinists Mate Manny Meneses, Philadelphia's Chief of the Boat.
Harr embodied that service when he was temporarily assigned to Philadelphia's sister ship, USS Memphis (SSN 691), as the Assistant Navigator filling an unplanned loss just prior to a major ship's inspection. Harr attended Cory-Rawson High School, Marion, Ohio and enlisted in the Navy in April 2003. He reported to USS Philadelphia in August 2004. Presenting Award is Denny Hicks of the Chamber and New London Rotary.
